May Day, May Day
It’s May Day and the beginning of my favourite month of the year because its full of flowers and warmer days (hopefully). When I was a student in art college I had to interview a practicing artist for a paper and as I was from Sligo I decided to interview the wonderful abstract artist Sean McSweeney who lived near by in Ballyconnell. What I remembered most about the interview was that it was May Day and he talked to me about how he created a painting on this day, every year. There was something about his tradition to capture a particular day which struck a chord with me and I remember him and his painting every year. In honour of this tradition I am marking the day with a May Day blog post. And, yes folks, its going to be about flowers to celebrate the beginning of summer…
Lovin Dublin created drone footage of an avenue of Cherry blossom in Dublin. It’s a birds eye view.
I adore Bluebell watching at this time of year, here is my post from last year on where to go in Sligo and Dublin for the best Bluebell viewing. There is also a Bluebell festival on in Curraghmore House, in Waterford this Sunday.
Gorse flowers add hopeful yellow colour to the Wicklow hills and the verdant West of Ireland landscapes all spring and summer. They are lovely to see on the mountains, lovely to walk amongst and smell the coconut-y aroma but even lovelier to make Gorse Wine from, see this recipe from Garrai Glas so you can bottle and celebrate with it!
Another May Day post for you to check out.
Happy May Day everyone hope its full of flowers…
