Snáithe - The Story of Irish Fashion

I am excited and delighted to be making a cameo appearance this Wednesday in Snáithe a new six-part documentary on TG4 which traces the story of Irish fashion through the eyes of contemporary designers, experts and fashion historians (one of them is me!). The series was created and directed by the lovely Ciara Nic Chormaic (who has been a regular tour goer on the Lost Fashion History Tours) and who poses some very interesting questions about Irish fashion. She looks for some of the answers on what inspires Irish designers today, whether folk traditions and superstitions surrounding dress have survived in contemporary Ireland and whether there is an Irish fashion identity (I think there is). The answer is revealed by some of Ireland’s most-loved designers from Orla Kiely, Natalie B Coleman, Úna Burke, Richard Malone, Helen Steele and many more. And the story is presented by Fashion blogger Ciara O’Doherty, who styled by Aisling Farinella embarks on a wonderful journey that gets right to the heart of what Irish style is all about.

Way back in early autumn the two Ciaras and the Snáithe crew came on my Lost Fashion History of The Liberties Tour and I took them on a journey down Dublin’s streets to see the places our fashionable past evolved from Dublin Castle to Weaver’s Square – you’ll see a snippet of this in action on Wednesday. Snáithe begins at 8.30pm on Wednesday, 14th February and continues for six weeks on TG4.
