Dublin’s Loveliest Loos

Vintage oval mirror on striped wallpaper at the Powder Room in Kehoe’s South Anne Street Dublin.

I’d like to share with you my pick of Dublin’s loveliest loos! Yes- you did hear me right and no there won’t be photos of any actual toilets but there is a vintage angle! Dublin’s top three prettiest Loos are in fact in (some of) my top three favourite buildings in Dublin which I love for different reasons. The fact that they have quirky, comfortable and very pretty powder rooms is an added bonus. So here we go! Did you know about Kehoe’s chaise longue loo, the vintage tiled loo of the National Library or Shelbourne’s decadent deco style loo? If not don’t forget about them when next visiting the buildings below. I’d love to know about any other pretty loos in Dublin? If so pop your hidden favourites in the comment box below the post I’d be delighted to hear from you.

The Chaise Longue Loo @Kehoe’s, South Anne Street, Dublin 2

Kehoe’s is one of the cosiest pubs in Dublin. I love everything about it from its glowing neon sign and flower filled window boxes outside to its wonky staircase and the snugs at the back (if you are lucky enough to get one that is!). There is always a roaring fire in winter upstairs and  people spilling out onto South Anne Street with drink in hand on summer’s evenings. And if Kehoe’s couldn’t get any better I only recently discovered that at the top of their premises is the most wonderful Ladies loo.  As you can see above it works gilded mirrors, stripe and flocked wallpapers, a fire-place and the pièce de résistance– a chaise longue! This is the perfect spacious place to powder your nose and gossip in style.

The Vintage Loo @The National Library of Ireland

The National Library of Ireland and its reading room are set in the most exquisite 19th century building. And the loo below stairs is as quirky as can be. With zany mismatched tiling and a suite of mint green sofa and armchairs. It also has stained glass window partitions and school-style taps. Its a real hidden gem and has a sweet old fashioned feel, its also super clean with a faint, comforting smell of Jayes Fluid- a vintage detergent, no less!

The Decadent Loo @The Shelbourne Hotel

The Shelbourne Hotel loo is always going to be a stylish affair and yet they have retained a little old shcool magic akin to their revolving doors. What makes it a powder room rather than a loo is the lovely upholstered sofas, its mahogony and marble fittings and truly amazing flower displays which are dotted around in strategic positions. Having a drink in the bar or afternoon tea, a trip below stairs will make you feel like you have happened upon your own modern vintage oasis of calm.
