Dublin is blustery and the streets have coloured leaves flying about. This morning however the sun shone and I took some photos on a tour of Trinity College with UCD Historian Ainnle O’Neill- see photos of a blaze of coloured leaves above and below and here’s some wild and wonderful things I found flying about on the web this week.
The weather’s cold so its time to indulge in long, luxurious baths taken in great, grand style. Diane Von Furstenberg wrote a book a Guide to Bathing, and needless to say it is fabulous. See it via Into the Gloss blog- you’ll want a bathroom refit.
Ever wanted to know what the streets of Paris really looked like in the 19th Century? I came across this blog Vergue this week and it is a window on a world.
I am getting in line to see Dublin’s Oldest House 9/9A Aungier with Open House tomorrow, if you have missed it do watch this fascinating video via The Irish Times where a tenant from the 1950s tells of her life in its very rooms. A must watch! #loveyourcity
On the topic of loving your city and finding out more about what happened behind many of our facades, a new book by Lisa Marie Griffith Stones of Dublin: A History of Dublin in Ten Buildings has been published. I cannot wait to read this! It is available in all good bookshops now.
I am a big fan of Sophie Dahl’s writing and fabulous cookbooks, she launched her website earlier this year At the Kitchen Table, I love her tales on enchantment.
The dresses of your dreams, the latest frothy picture book from Vogue The Gown is pure escapist fashion fantasy, browse the gorgeous gown gallery just for fun, and imagine yourself in one of these confections here.
Drury Street’s prettiest shop and the friendliest and most personable one too- Om Diva are now online. I am a big fan of their Vintage Basement and have been keeping my fashion eye on their online selection here.
Thinking of flowers and autumn leaves I rediscovered Constance Spry and this quote “Do what you please, follow your own star; be original if you want to be and don’t if you don’t want to be. Just be natural and light-hearted and pretty and simple and overflowing and general and baroque and bare and austere and stylized and wild and daring and conservative, and learn and learn and learn. Open your mind to every form of beauty.”
