Gløgg & Bullets
Sitting down to a glorious hot wine Gløgg at a beautiful round wooden table in Copenhagen’s oldest Pub- Hviids Vinstue I was attracted to worn knots in the table (see pic above). My Copenhagen friend pointed out that these were not knots in the wood but bullet holes. The pub is 300 yrs old and has had a checkered past with academics and artists sitting and discussing life at its wooden tables for centuries, the Copenhagen resistance gathered here in WW2 and it was then that these tables were used not as a place for a glass of Gløgg but a shield for bullet-fire.
