Lost Fashion on Merrion Square
I’m moving uptown! I am delving into the Lost Fashion History of another part of town. Moving from the rag-trade streets of South William Street to the couture fashion businesses and flamboyant fashion figures of Merrion Square. On Saturday the 30th of August, the fabulous Merrion Square Network are holding an open day where you can gain access to some of the most amazing buildings on the square, see these amazing spaces and hear about their history.
I will be doing a Lost Fashion History of Merrion Square tour at 2pm starting from the Irish Architectural Archive– Number 45 Merrion Square. I’ll be bringing the tour through a brief history of fashion on the square looking at the buildings and places where the most amazing 18th, 19th and 20th century fashion took place. Whether it was the style of 18th century ladies entertaining the great and the good in Number 45 the most glorious townhouse of the square, or the artistic style in the hub of Lady Wilde’s salon at Number 1. Or in Number 71 the ‘House that Linen Built’- where Ireland’s most famous fashion designer Sybil Connolly lived and worked. This tour will look at the places and figures who have cut a dash across this 18th Century square over the years.
You can book your place on my walk via Eventbrite here. The walk is free, book quickly as places limited to 20 people. I look forward to seeing you there. Bring a fashionable umbrella!
