Rua Ruth Loves…

Hurray! It’s February and whether you like to think that this is the beginning of  Spring or not it’s cause for celebration. Here’s some loves to mull over this week!

I have a fascination with St Bridgid’s Day and the beautiful crosses that mark the day. Legend has it that you could tell how old cottages were in the West of Ireland by how many  crosses had gathered in the eaves- as each cross marked a year. They still are a good luck symbol and I have one gracing my door (see pictured above) and if you fancy trying your hand at making one, see here and here’s more about St Brigid from my blog post last year. Or if in the Galway area why not visit St. Brigits Garden in Moycullen.

As someone who loves a 1950s beaded cardigan the reign of the sweater has been a little uneasy for me- the great news is Vogue says cardigans are back, and Vogue are always, always, right, I love this floral Chanel number.

High five to Lily Higgins and her amazing recipes ‘Give Me Five’ on the Irish Times. This week she shows us how to make Avocado pasta- it looks beyond tempting.

I popped into this exhibition in the National Photographic Archive at the weekend, if you do call in the artist Pamela De Brí will bring you on a photographic journey around beautiful old and often disused railway stations dotted around Ireland.

If you love costume here’s an Instagram account you really must follow just to see the fabulousness of what’s hidden in The Abbey Theatre’s costume archive.

Want to get a behind the scenes glimpse at the latest couturier to grace the Georgian grandeur of Merrion Square, check this blog post by the very lovely and talented Nathalie Courtney Marquez.

I found this cool lobster mould (see below) at the Dublin Flea Market, I am having a lot of fun deciding what type of jelly to make in it.

Snowdrops are popping their little heads up in park’s all across Dublin- but where’s the best place to spot them? I’ll leave you to ponder that one and leave me a comment in the box below if there’s any secret spots you know of!
