Rua Ruth Loves…

Girl taking photo of bust statue in park

The lovely Rincy of A Little Bird captures me taking photos in Merrion Square.

Ever since I learned how to copy and paste links into emails I have created a habit of sending links to friends and family of things they might like from articles, ideas, books, things to note, recipes, events, things we should do and just random whimsical things I come across.

With that in mind I thought I would spread the love and extend my link loves to whoever may drop by on Ruaruth. Expect fashion history, culture, history, things to do in Dublin, recipes, how to wear fabulous things and autres choses that I have found on the world wide web during the week

Here we go…

Dreaming of chateaux

I  have always loved the idea of being a guardian of a beautiful building. That’s why I signed up  to Camelot Properties, a company which finds tenants to take care of amazing buildings that are empty around Ireland and Europe. I receive their newsletter which sends updates on chateaux, creepy hospitals and old buildings that are in need of housesitters. On one such newsletter I came across these cool Belgian girls who blog from the chateau that they are housesitting, they have created a fabulous photography blog which records their life in the castle called Kastel Tweeling see it here. It’s written in Flemish/Belgian but you can translate it. I loved this post in particular about medicinal herbs from the castle gardens and photos of them pretty much living the dream.

Blackberry season

We are just coming to the end of Blackberry season and two very lovely and very talented American girls with sensational blogs show us just how to use our Blackberries in Ireland. See Emily Westbrooks’ post on Blackberry Jam and Irish Yoghurt on her blog From China Village and Farmette’s fabulous recipe on how to make Blackberry, Apple and Sweet Geranium Tart. Delish desserts!

Man on Bridge

I was honoured to play a little part in Man on Bridge project. See me on video below. But now these amazing guys have gone and produced a book on all the photos and stories Arthur Field captured on O’Connell Street. Read all about it! The book is on my Christmas list.

Clothes of the West

A little write up about the Glittering and the Gloaming a new collection of knits by Heather Finn by Deirdre McQuillan on Irishtimes.com.

Stylish in a headscarf

The glamour of head scarves and how to wear them, Barney’s Department store in New York (via Giovanna Battagli and Louise Brooks) tell us how! See it here

Considered

A fabulous new homewares collection by Helen James (a favourite blog of mine) has arrived in Dunnes Stores. Check out her Considered collection.

Love your city

I am volunteering next week for Open House, I have enjoyed this so much over the years I felt I had to give a little in return. You can find me in The Fumbally Exchange next Saturday afternoon. I will be manning an exhibition called “Revealing Dublin’s Missing Link- exploring a hidden (sub)urban legacy.” I love Open House and the opportunity it gives everyone to love your city! See the line-up of amazing buildings open across Dublin on their website. Here’s my top 5 open house spots to visit, and remember its on for the whole weekend so you can fit in as much as you like.

Magic Morocco

I’m going to Morocco next month with my best friends, it’s a reunion of sorts and a return to a backpacking trip that we did 10 (eek) years ago to Tangier, Marrakesh, Fez and Essouira. I’ve been mulling over these images on Pinterest since the temperatures dropped in Dublin to remind me there are places where it is still warm. Knock yourself out with the utter magic of Morocco here.
