Snapping Roses

We are having an Indian summer this September, I am just back from a walk down Dun Laoghaire pier in my short sleeves! And last Sunday was also a day of glorious sunshine. I spent it in the company of other photographers for a Photowalk. Photowalk is a wonderful idea arranged via  Meet up where people interested in photography meet up randomly in a nominated locations in Dublin and go for a walk to take photos together. A collection of photo nerds (me included) with cameras of all shapes and sizes met last Sunday for a Photowalk of the Iveagh Gardens, St Stephens Green and The Grand Canal. It was a blazing hot day and plenty of photo opportunities appeared throughout the day.

The Meet up began in the Iveagh Gardens and the group was a collection of first-timers, Dubliners, people new to Dublin and tourists. Vinny, the leader of the pack brought us to the location and we did the rest. We took photos of the rose Gardens, sun-dial and maze and statues dotted around the Iveagh Gardens. Along the canal we took photos of ducks and reeds,  graffiti and fallen leaves and for the day that was in it reflections of blue skies on the still waters.

Better yet was the walk down Baggot Street which brought more unusual photo opportunities,  a group of Eritrean people dressed in white muslin stepped outside a building and got snapped as did a bearded hipster wearing amazing top hat and tails. And the walk finished with a picnic in Stephens Green where I learned some nifty techniques for my camera from fellow Photowalkers. All members are connected via Meet up so we could share our photos and memories from the day online. It’s such a simple concept and such an enjoyable one too. As a member its possible to bring a Photowalk idea to the group, I have some ideas in mind so watch this space!
