Happy Birthday Maureen
“Above all else in my soul I’m a tough Irish woman”
As it is the beautiful Maureen O’Hara’s 93rd birthday today I thought it would be apt to celebrate with a post about one of her amazing costumes that is exhibiting in Dublin at the moment. We have seen quite a number of costumes from the golden age of Hollywood in Ireland in the last number of years thanks to Newbridge Silverware. Now, The Little Museum of Dublin are running an exhibition called ‘Your huddled masses‘ about the Irish-American connection and they have a costume that Maureen O’Hara wore in The Wings of Eagles in 1957.
I am a big fan of Maureen not least because she is a Hollywood legend. I love her portrayal of the Irish woman on screen she is fun, feisty and passionate and incredibly elegance.
On show at The Little Museum of Dublin is a demure navy dress with polka dot pleated panel – made to look like a coat over a shirt dress. It is from The Wings of Eagles. It is a simple dress yet has that Maureen je ne sais quoi. Go visit it today seeing the day that’s in it.
‘Your huddled masses’ is on at The Little Museum of Dublin until September 2013.
