Vintage Marianne
The highly anticipated TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s award winning book Normal People has been just the thing to light up our lockdown viewing and to get us thinking about life, love, sexuality and growing up. What I have been fascinated to see unfold is Marianne’s wardrobe.
Costumes from The Crown
I went on a lovely jaunt to London last week which led me back to many old haunts, one of them being my old work place Liberty of London. I was smitten by their Christmas window inspired by The Nutcracker which was dressed with a Royal Ballet inspired set, complete with twirling ballerina shoes and waving fans.

Here’s some fun tidbits I gathered from around the net, new Twitter people to follow and events to put on your radar. Guaranteed to cure the January blues.
Rua Ruth Loves…
Dublin is blustery and the streets have coloured leaves flying about. This morning however the sun shone and I took some photos on a tour of Trinity College with UCD Historian Ainnle O’Neill- see photos of a blaze of coloured leaves above and below and here’s some wild and wonderful things I found flying about on the web this week.

What have I been loving this week…
Grandad’s Pyjamas
The weekend is all about pyjamas and I am still in mine as I write. But pyjamas can be chic, non?
The Life Aquatic
My best friend Heather Finn has the sea in her blood, having grown up by Galway Bay in Oranmore Castle with the sound of waves in earshot and a famous sea-faring grandfather regaling her with sailor’s stories. As a knitwear designer Heather integrates colour and pattern into wearable art-pieces, creating beautifully patterned and exotic hued…
The Trinity Ball
It’s a warm night in Dublin tonight. I can feel spring is in the air, the sun has set with a warm glow over the city and Trinity College has lit up its classical facade for The Trinity Ball
The History Dress: Sarah’s 1970s Skirt
The history item in question this time around is a 1970s printed skirt belonging to a very good friend of mine- Sarah Louborg. Sarah has the most fascinating family history and incredible personal style.
Happy Birthday Maureen
As it is the beautiful Maureen O’Hara’s 93rd birthday today I thought it would be apt to celebrate with a post about one of her amazing costumes that is exhibiting in Dublin at the moment.
Ria’s Patchwork Dress
If a dress could be a symbol of a family history then Ria Czerniak‘s patchwork dress speaks volumes. This dress tells Ria’s unique family history, as colourful and diverse as its patchwork folds…
The History Dress - Leonor’s 1930s Dress
How fab does Leonor look in this beautiful 1930s/1940s style dress?
Señorita Style
I’m just back from Barcelona where I have been inspired by señorita style. I’ve always loved the Gypsy señorita look; all that black lace, nipped in waists, frills, hoop earrings, flowers, shawls, ruffled sleeves and tumbling curls.
The Vintage Sessions
I’ve loved Vintage ever since I found a stash of my Mother’s pretty 1970s dresses in the attic and in an instant all the allure and glamour of a different decade caught my imagination.
Dancing Shoes
There is something about a 1930s dancing shoe which is magic.
A Poirot Tash
I am a huge Agatha Christie fan, all those heroines fluttering around in tea-dresses with pistols in their dainty lady-like handbags.
